NC Ski Resorts
Our family's North Carolina Christmas Tree Farm is
located in one of the most awe-inspiring regions of the country. The High
Country, as it is sometimes referred to, is known as being the "Land of the
Clouds" with its high rising mountain peaks and rich wilderness areas. These
majestic peaks are also perfect for skiing in the wintertime, and during the
cold months of November-March, the High Country region and our North Carolina
Christmas Tree Farm receives a great deal of natural snowfall. The powdery snow
conditions coupled with the amazing mountain ridges led to the first explosion
in Southern skiing, which began in 1962 at Appalachian Ski Mountain in Blowing
Rock. Since then, other Ski Resorts in NC have opened in the surrounding region;
however, Boone remains the NC Ski capital and is the place that many associate
with snow skiing in North Carolina. Why not make plans to visit the High Country
region for a quick ski vacation and get your
Fraser Fir Christmas Tree all in the same weekend? In fact, many people
choose to do just that and come up Friday-Sunday to experience some of the
winter fun in the High Country, relaxing on Friday, skiing on Saturday and
finding their tree on Sunday, or vice versa. Several ski resorts in the area
offer night skiing as well for those that might want to find their tree during
the day and get in some skiing at night.
Appalachian
Ski Mountain was the first ski resort to open, not only in the area, but the
entire state. It is a family friendly resort that is renowned for its
atmosphere, easy-to-learn-on slopes, and French Swiss Ski School. Appalachian
Ski Mountain offers not only skiing and snowboarding, but the resort also has
amazing amenities including an ice skating rink, great ski shop, and small café.
Sugar Mountain is the largest ski resort in the state and the resort where
many try skiing and snowboarding for the first time. It offers the state's
largest vertical drop and has skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, cross country
skiing, tubing, and ice skating available for those that are daring. Located
right off of Tynecastle Highway (Hwy 184) in Banner Elk, Ski Sugar is a fun
place to spend your day.
The closest ski resort to our Fraser Fir Christmas Tree
Choose n Cut Farm is Ski Beech Ski Resort. Ski Beech is located atop Beech
Mountain, in the town that is named after this infamous peak. Surrounded by
gorgeous alpine trees such as beech trees and evergreens, the town actually has
the distinction of being the highest incorporated community located east of the
Mississippi River, and it is the home of the Beech Mountain Resort area which
features golf and tennis in the summer and skiing in the winter months. At Ski
Beech Resort you can enjoy not only skiing and snowboarding but also ice
skating, snow tubing and shopping and dining in the quaint village located at
the resort.
If you are not into skiing, but still want to have some fun playing in the snow,
then head over to Hawksnest Tubing Park, the largest snow tubing park in the
state. Hawksnest has not 1, but 4 snow tubing areas with multiple lanes that are
fantastic fun to sled and snow tube down. Hawksnest is located atop Seven
Devils.
Plan to enjoy the outdoors when you come up to find your
NC Christmas Tree this season. The High
Country is an outdoor adventure land filled with tons of wonderful things that
you can do and experience. If skiing is not exactly your cup of tea, then take
part in some of the other things going on in the area during your time here. We
have included some information to our visitors on things like the
ASU Football home games, the
ASU Performing Arts Series events
that take place during tree season, great places to stay and local watering
holes that are famous for their great cuisines and entrées. Plan to come up to
Boone NC this holiday season to find a real,
Fraser Fir Christmas Tree! Don't buy one of those fake, phony plastic things
from a retail store; buy something that will leave your home smelling of
Christmas and your family delighted for days.
